what do so many areas still only have 2G service from T-Mobile? Will they ever be upgraded to 3G?

The manager at the corporate T-Mobile store is my wife's co-worker's grandson. I was chit-chatting with him the other day. According to him, there is ZERO chance of 3G upgrade. 2G is all we'll get for the next 3 to 5 years.... then if we're lucky, maybe upgrade straight to 4G. (very big IF)
