Stock can be rooted or not rooted. :) You can try doing it on un-rooted. Not sure if it will let you edit build.prop. My guess is no. Gesture GMD is the way to go in that case.

You can do it with GMD GestureControl. I haven't tried it but there's a video with the app in google play doing what you want. Try it out and let us know how it works!

Yes. I tried this and it works. The volume does increase considerably and it is pretty easy to do if you have root. The Mod installs a couple of apps "Awesome BEATS" and "noozy" along with the "Noozexide EIZO-rewire PRO" which is the actual fix.

I use Nova on my N4. No considerable battery drain. No performance issues either... It's really smooth. Some times I even forget there's a launcher! The ability to hide apps and create folders within the application list is really handy.
