Have you tried removing the Google account from your Android device all along and re-installing it? it worked for me also after trying all published options. Merry Christmas!

I just installed the latest version (Apr 12 2014) of Adobe Reader on my Samsung S4 mini. In the What's New section it says it can read out loud .pdf files if Accessibility is on, but it does not specify which feature must be turned on, i.e., there is not an "off/on" switch for Accessibility...
