Hmm, it may be possible to hide apps deep in the android menus. Can they hide from other app installers besides the android default one? Try that. Maybe it works. Some monitoring apps like kokospy and xnspy hide well but can be removed with third party installers

Try checking to see if roaming is enabled in the settings and that the GPS is on. You might also want to look at the device's location in settings and make sure you update it to the US.

This was a problem for me too on a Xiaomi device when it was running some of the later builds of MIUI 11. It still bugs out from time to time on MIUI 12.
