Sometimes it will show emails unread in your entire inbox, not just the inbox you have loaded onto your phone. Go to the source email account and delete the emails from there. Posted via the Android Central App

Well blocking isn't permanent. All it does is make your phone seem off to them and not let anything through. You could block for a week or two then unblock if you're worried about important calls in the future. I know that's not exactly what you want to hear but it's the best I got, maybe...
