I believe you can edit NFC tags with AVX or EVA. Not sure if they are only usable by that app though.... check their YouTube channel or dev site.

I don't think it would be difficult at all. I do know someone with a regular Razr Maxx who removed the screen protector from the OB Defender, they are none too techy, so I'm sure it's not difficult in the least. I personally like the protector, but have considered removing it on this case...

I'm absolutely positive I have the Maxx HD, however it shows up as "Razr HD" in several situations including when connected to my PC. If you need to, verify it in about phone (as GatsbyGlen showed), but don't be paranoid. I'm sure you got the real deal.
