Thanks, but I should have specified: an instant count, without relying on third-party apps. I found that if you go to Drive -> Google Photos and hit Select all, it gives a count of all media there. It's slightly higher than the count in the Photos app; not sure why yet, but presumably...

Is there a Photos file count anywhere on the OS?

So it seems it won't load (not even read-only) if the latest copy isn't downloaded. Surely this should be done automatically every time if 'Keep on device' is checked?

I have chosen to keep a Google doc on device but it still won't load unless connected to the internet. Kinda defeats the purpose of having an 'on device' copy, no? Any way to actually a keep an editable copy on the device so it can be edited in case an internet connection isn't available?

It's the latter based on my observations of the retained file details (except -1x-1 dimensions). Realise it's advisable to backup prior to updating but would be helpful to have a file count for a quick comparison before/after updating. Available?

There are a few empty spaces in Photos that yield 'Media not found' when clicked on. Not sure if media actually disappeared due to the update or if these are remnants of media that were not deleted properly before the update. Advice?

Some screenshots appear blurry in Photos whereas others appear clear. Is there a way to have them consistently clear? Using Nexus 5 Android 5.0.
