I use the Google Assistant in my phone for that stiff when I'm traveling. It's a lot easier than setting up a Home on a new network energy place I go. Especially since I don't trust public wifi.

You don't really need a computer. Upload the file to your Google Play Music account, then download it to your phone. You don't need a premium account to do that. Or you can place it in Drive or Dropbox on your computer and download it. I use Ringdroid, which hasn't been updated in a year, but...

99.9% of the time you don't need it. Consumer Reports recommends not getting them. OTOH, if you actually need it it's really nice to have. But I wouldn't get one for a Home.

A Chromecast Audio hooked up to even a cheap powered speaker works wonders in rooms without a stereo.

Is a Google Home. You can group it with a chromecast by default. I don't bother with my regular Home because it's in my living room with my stereo.

A word of warning. It's very addictive. You start thinking about more and more stuff you can add, all of which costs money.

I've never gotten ads streaming on Google Play Music on my Google Home.

Or spend half as much on a good speaker and Chromecast Audio,while keeping your data away from Verizon.

Checked my phone last night, discovered it was installed on the 5th. Never even noticed. Which is how it should work.
