I managed to turn the voice assistant on and now, no matter what, cannot turn it off again. It has taken over my phone and I have spent at least two hours attempting to switch it off. For fear of throwing the phone through a window I have put it down and gone to do some gardening!!!! How in gods...

Thanks for the replies, Smart Switch will not transfer my texts. I believe having, read elsewhere, Smart Switch doesn't work with text transfers with IOS 9. I will follow gavo360's link and report back.
