I've never been able to use mine at Walmart. I always assumed Walmart blocked it so you'd have to use Walmart Pay.

See two posts above your last one. Did you wipe cache and app data? Wiping whole device shouldn't be a big issue if you've been using Samsung Cloud. I've had to wipe my S8+ and it restored perfectly.

Inclined to agree with OP. Never had a scratch on my S6 or S7E. Noticed a scratch on the S8+ back glass a couple days ago.

Sounds like you've got a lemon if you keep having issues after every update. Better to get a warranty exchange. Honestly, I would have done that after the first freeze up and hard reset. These devices cost too much to put up with that kind of glitch.
