OK, so I have finally narrowed it down. The culprit is DashClock. If I use the default lockscreen the phone is fine. Enable DashClock and as soon as I unlock the menu button is dead when on the homescreen. Not really sure where to go from here with this. It doesn't seem like I'm running anything...

This happens quite infrequently, but when it does it's a real pain. Once in a while I cannot access the main menu when hitting the menu button. The really odd part is that this only happens when I'm on the homescreen. If I can't access the menu, but go into an app, I can access the settings menu...

Most of the bloat you can hide, but not disable/uninstall. I don't need a bunch of Samsung and Rogers software wasting space on my phone. By installing a custom kernel I have control over the CPU for overclocking and changing minimum CPU speeds which can be useful. My battery lasts long enough...

I don't particularly find that the Samsung Apps do anything I really care for, let alone "simplify my life and everyday tasks." Most of the Samsung "features" reek of pure fluff to me. Ooohh.. I can wave my hand over my phone to see the time and notifications... I rarely need to actually check...

Are you using a different rom than stock for your phone? Some roms don't support transparent notification bars from what I've seen.

Well there is a more elegant solution: root and install a different ROM. That's the route I went. Installed Slim Bean and amongst the ton of other awesome features, is the removal of the high volume warning.

Here's how I got around it. I use Poweramp for my music player. Thankfully it has a preamp and EQ so I just boosted the preamp a bit, tweaked the EQ a bit more and now the "default" sound level for music is high enough that I never get that annoying warning even when turning it up a fair bit.

Screen protector only. Just a Zagg for right now until my glas.tr slim gets here. I've always used screen protectors on my phones, but almost never have I used a case.

Try another launcher. Nova Prime allows you to move the App Drawer shortcut wherever you want. This was actually one of the main reasons I started looking into alternate launchers.
