You can try checking force gpu rendering in developer options. It might speed things up.

If I recall, you have to join the Poweramp beta tester group to gain access to the alpha build. Just do a Google search on Power Amp alpha build and you should be able to find all the info you need including YouTube tutorials.

I'm using Power Amp alpha version and AFAIK it's working. Sounds great.
