Quad dac question

In order to take advantage of the dac, must you use the stock music player if there is one? Or can you download another player and still take advantage of the dac?

Well, it works with music streaming services, like Spotify, so I can't see that it wouldn't work with any player.

Well the reason I ask is that my ZTE axon7 has a tremendous dac with dolby atmos. But the dac is only enabled when you use the stock music player which is an awful player. Very plain. Glad to hear about the v30.

I'm using Power Amp alpha version and AFAIK it's working. Sounds great.

There is the stock LG music player that is pretty good and obviously takes advantage of the Quad DAC. But I prefer to use the PowerAmp music player. the Alpha version takes advantage of the Quad DAC. There were several threads in the V20 section that talked about different music players and headphones that utilize all the music features.

You can find the PowerAmp app in Google Play, however in order to get the alpha version you will need to go to the PowerAmp website and find it in the forums section. As indicated it's an alpha version that's still being tested. It's kind of surprising that it's taking so long to get to the point where it's ready for the Play store, but the alpha version is stable, at least on this device. You will lose some of the features like album art and a few graphics.

If I recall, you have to join the Poweramp beta tester group to gain access to the alpha build. Just do a Google search on Power Amp alpha build and you should be able to find all the info you need including YouTube tutorials.

From my understanding as long as you are using 50ohms or better headphones high fidelity music sites should work.

The headphones don't dictate which High Fidelity sites will work. The DAC works with low impedance headphones. What changes mostly is the output level of the DAC.

I had already purchased the full version. To get the alpha version I just went to the forums I linked and downloaded and installed it. It does show up in my beta test apps. I'm guessing that when I signed up to the forums it was the same as signing up for the testing.

The DAC works with all players and services. You can enable or disable in your settings. Using high impedance head phones enables a high output mode which high impendance low sensitivity head phones need.

I can confirm that the hifi DAC works with all audio sources. Just plug in your headphones, and assuming you have it enabled in the settings menu, you'll get the icon that it's working in the notification bar. Even if you're just on your home screen.

50ohm or higher.....I'm not sure how tight that spec is. Something slightly lower could trigger it

Since when? I could be wrong but when I use Google play music I can turn on the dac and Dolby

One thing that's interesting about the Quad Dac and Google Play Music is that in the app you can only control the volume in incremental steps of 5...whereas any other location (home screen for example), it steps up in increments of 1. Weird.
