Thanks for reply. I will keep 'looking around' open WiFi's to see if any are accepted by Google Asst. From what I read about this facility (in the link below) I got the impression that just about any free WiFi you connect to will be accepted by Google Asst? WiFi Assistant can secure manually...

Well, I have tried a few other open WiFi but no 'Google Assistant'. I would very much appreciate guidance from you as to the settings that I should check as 'On' or 'Off'. My Nexus 5x includes this feature and has Google Play Services version 9.6.83.

Thanks for clarification. Have to keep looking, seems not to work on any of the open WiFi I have tried.

WiFi support of Android 4.2.2 My network is WPA/WPA2 with AES. Will Android 4.2.2 support AES. I have a Google tablet using the latest 5.1.1 and this connects OK but my 4. 2.2 phone will not authenticate . .
