+1 on the DuroCase, I was having the same issues as Nate WRT grip, rocking etc. It solved all the issues mentioned and I really like the kickstand, mine also came with a wand, which actually comes in handy if your hands are dirty or just for general use.

Good point, I'm coming a Razr M with no camera bulge and a completely flat back, so it will just take some getting used to.

Had my Moto X for about a week, really like it so far except for one issue. This is my first phone with a curved back, and while it feels nice to hole, it makes it virtually impossible to use it when it's laid down on a table, it will just spin at the slightest swipe. Of course this is obvious...

That's a good point. I wonder if this problem is more prevalent with the naked clear case, or is it just that with the clear back, you tend to see the dirt & want to try to clean it out. With an opaque case, you don't see the dirt unless you actually remove it.

How exactly did the Case Mate actually screw up your back. I just ordered the Case Mate for my X, seems to have gotten pretty good reviews, but now I'm having second thoughts about using it if this is a common problem.
