I suspect that your problem is that you have some sort of foreign material in the headphone jack. This is more common for guys, as we tend to put our phones in our pockets, and lint gets into the jack. I've also had it happen that I get my pants or shorts wet with salt-water when I'm walking...

Hmmm... different than mine. Have you tried either clearing data or cache? (settings / apps / voice recorder / storage...)

Just to be sure of what you're seeing, when you go into the voice recorder app, does it say "No recordings found" in the middle of the screen?

If it was shutting down at 33%, then you already know that you've had a long-standing battery problem. That's just going to get worse with time. Rule it out and have your battery replaced.
