    Put it in a case. Gorilla Glass etc are nice against scratches and minor bumps but I wouldn't trust them to protect against drops. Phones are expensive, protect your investment.

    These earbuds have never had a mic attached? If so, it's very unlikely it's possible. The manufacturer likely won't be adding cost to the device by adding an unused capability.
