You could try Handbrake, haven't used it in a long time but I used to swear by it. And as far as I remember it is legal to rip CDs and DVDs for personal use.So long as you legally own a copy or license.
It is very straight forward on how to use.
Do you have screen protector mode turned on?
Also, not all screen protectors are created equally. Cheep AliExpress ones aren't worth their price. Make sure you go with a reputable company.
You can also donate it to a women's shelter to use as an emergency 911 phone. I know in Canada phones can be used to dial 911 without an active sim, not sure about other regions though.
I've done this with 3 of our unused phones.
On my P8P it's called audio , open your file explorer on the device and make sure. Also in usb settings make sure it's not set to midi or charge. It should be set to file transfer or some iteration of that.
