I don't know about debit cards but I have a Citi chip credit card on my phone (Samsung pay). I've used it at Whole Foods, Smith's groceries, and Target. No issues.

They are not NFC capable, but I have my Samsung battery for that. The cheap charger they come with takes forever, but it works. I just charge one battery overnight. Posted via Android Central App
