This is correct, there is a cut out to accomodate the home button in the inside of the cover portion of the flip cover. Can't imagine why there would be any fit issues nor do I get either why anyone would focus on the verizon logo on the button. I am actually proud to be a VZW customer and...

I have the OEM flip case in grey and think its great. Light and not bulky at all. Phone and case still fit in hip pocket comfortably. No problem for me in taking pictures either.

Its a standard outlook.com (formerly live.com and hotmail) email which I thought was pop type. Its not the Outlook email that is part of Office. Nonetheless, doesn't sound like you have more frequent options.

The lowest on mine under synchronization type is "push" right above 15 mins so they push out as received. But that is for outlook/hotmail so maybe it varies by the version of email being used.
