You can use any Bluetooth controller with the Shield. I don't have a PlayStation 3, but I don't think its controller has Bluetooth natively (but I could be wrong.) If it come with a USB cord, I imagine you could plug it in directly and use it that way.

My guess is that is probably will work, but is not supported. I'm just surprised there hasn't been many, if any, reviews of the new AirTV. Hopefully someone can clarify this. Thanks for your input.

For what it's worth, I bought the international version, and it gets 4g LTE on T-Mobile in Salt Lake City. So it works.
