Disable the home button from turning the screen on?

Wow - thanks. That's been bugging me too. What stupid user interface design that you can't turn this off! The Galaxy hardware seems great, the Samsung software is garbage. It's also nice to find a solution that doesn't involve installing some great overweight app just to do one tiny little thing!

    mobile data not working.

Have you set up the APN for the data network? Without that data will not work (but phone and SMS will as they do not need an APN). You have to go to mobile networks .. Access Point Names in Settings and create an APN with the settings you will find from your network provider.

Tether Fonepad to my laptop on AT&T

I must admit I've just tried to make it work but couldn't get it to function at all. I suggest you ask Asus technical support and see what they say?

    copy files from camera

Yes, contrary to my previous advice, this is what I do too. The Fonepad works very well as a backup to the camera and is much better than viewing on the 3 inch camera screen. I use the app RawDroid to view raw images on the Fonepad too. I use a USB OTG (on-the-go) lead costing less than a pound...

Tether Fonepad to my laptop on AT&T

I would just look on the AT&T support web site, somewhere about 'setting up your phone' where it should list the APN settings you will need to use to connect to their data service. Don't forget you will need a SIM for the Fonepad, but perhaps you already have one from another phone? The Fonepad...

Tether Fonepad to my laptop on AT&T

The 3G works out of the box except you will need a micro SIM for the data/phone functionality. The device is not locked, you can use the phone without any configuration but to use data you will have to enter an APN for your ISP, which takes a couple of minutes. You can use the Fonepad to...

    ASUS Fonepad - Calibrate Compass

I had this. I suggest you get a free app called GPS Status which has a function to calibrate the compass which worked and got rid of that annoying figure of 8 dialog. Another point is, are you using your device in a case with a magnet in it? I bought a case where the magnet used to hold it open...

    disable phone function & undo

Mmm yes, I hadn't thought of that. It never occurred to me that you would be able to turn on wi-fi in airplane mode as surely you can then transmit data too? Anyway this does work. So this goes most of the way to what me and the OP want, the ability to turn off the phone functions without...

    disable phone function & undo

I don't think this will do what the OP wants. Disabling mobile data will certainly use Wi-Fi only but it will not stop the phone from constantly connecting to base stations for the phone. I can understand the requirement as I want the same, I don't want to keep taking the SIM out as this will...

    Internal Storage not as stated

Yes, I have the 16GB version and it has only 12.47 GB free when new. I think it is stuff already loaded into ROM, unfortunately there are quite a few apps included, most of which I don't want and can't delete without root.

    V3.2.2

Yes, the updates are coming quickly, I just wish Asus would include some information about what each update is supposed to change/fix. Otherwise it's hard to monitor whether the updates actually improve what they are supposed to improve.

    copy files from camera

While this would work, I suspect moving micro-SD cards and adaptors around would be quite fiddly. Another solution would be to try an SD card with built in WiFi in the camera. This works like a normal SD card except it also creates a wireless network over which your pictures are transmitted and...

    Update V3.1.17

Yes, I noticed this too. It would be nice to see at least a list of what has changed. The previous update definitely improved the Wi-Fi performance. Steve
