Will an unlocked VZW Droid work on USA GSM network?

Yes but whether a device uses a SIM or not doesn't really mean much. iDen devices use SIM's. LTE devices use SIM's. The device has to support the proper network tech and bands. The device cannot have a subsidy/network lock. It's not just a matter of "SIM versus no SIM".

    gps issue

Coincidence. Updates to your apps don't affect the GPS receiver itself. Your GPS receiver determines the location on its own. Your GPS-enabled app(s) just take the location data provided by the GPS receiver. Try GPS Status. Use its tool to clear/reset your aGPS data and try again.

    OG Droid has Navigation, right?

It's really an app, not a "feature". It's also not the only nav app out there. He can't just check the app drawer to confirm?

Web browser feature wanted, choose mobile or not on the fly

IIRC xScope allows you to set the user agent per site. Not sure of any browsers that allow you to do so per link though. With 28 years under your belt you should be well aware that you can't put the user fully in charge in every possible situation. Compromises have to be made. Development...

Are any Android phones designed to work w. a charging POD?

It's not a problem in and of itself. There are certainly a number of Android device docks that connect via the microUSB connector. My Droid's desktop and car docks are like this.

porting my cell # to google voice

Best way to what? You need to be more specific. Your account will be closed if you only have one line. Refer to the provided link:

    Exchange Server when Offline

Certainly not an issue with Touchdown, the Exchange client that I use. I'm disconnected all the time (no coverage in elevator, etc etc) and have no sync issues with ActiveSync.

Will the Navi/Google Maps on my Droid work in Mexico

Google Maps Nav isn't the only GPS nav app for Android. If you need locally stored maps on your device (to navigate without data) then look into Copilot and Navigon. GPS receivers don't need data (or else stand alone GPS units would be useless as well without data). Data requirements come...

Has anyone seen or used the Cobra Electronics I-radar ?

Spend some time reading up on Cobra RD's on sites dedicated to RD's. IMO it's not a good idea for hopefully obvious reasons (already stated in this thread). There are quite a few good options out there. The V1 isn't one-size-fits-all just as any Android device isn't one-size-fits-all.

Battery Life- Are we our own worst enemy (long)?

Oversimplified analogy but it's like your car. If you leadfoot it, MPG will suffer. You don't get something (power hungry features or improved battery life) for nothing. The grass is always greener. The iPhone doesn't have magic batteries. They have battery life issues as well.

What is the best shopping list application? 3Q11 Update.

Best is always highly subjective regardless of topic. Qualify exactly what you mean by best or else it's a fairly meaningless word. What are the important features that you want/need? What do you not care about? I personally prefer Our Groceries because it allows for cross-platform list...
