I may very well be wrong on this, but my understanding is that the feature you're describing, using the phone in phone mode separately from DEX, is a function of the new DEX dock.

I bought an unlocked Note8 direct from Samsung about 6 months ago, but using it on Consumer Cellular (they use AT&T towers). Really impressed with the Note8. Just the usual gripes about Samsung's proprietary apps that you can't get rid of, but otherwise it's probably the best phone I've ever had.

Not planning on it - unless my Note8 gets run over by a dump truck, then I probably will. I may decide to go with a 2-year replacement cycle so that I can get more use for my money.

Congratulations on your Note8! Really like mine. I'm not sure about the issue you have. I do know that in Settings it allows Notifications to give you a reminder sound if you don't check the notification. Could this be what you're referring to?
