I was able to use my phone's IMEI to get LTE service. It had one more step than just popping the SIM in however. The default APN was phone, I had to change it to NEXTGENPHONE before I contacted support about data.

I can confirm it does work with LTE on AT&T. The only issue I ran into was that my device was set to the APN phone by default, it needed to be changed to NEXTGENPHONE for LTE service.

You shouldn't need another IMEI to get LTE working on AT&T. I have a US Zenfone 2 Deluxe (you do need a US variant, the world edition is missing some AT&T bands). The default APN on my device was phone, which doesn't support LTE. I set it to NEXTGENPHONE. I lost all connectivity on that APN, so...
