I was of the same opinion about pure stock android, which I really do like. But there were a couple things that made me want to switch. I wanted to have a transparent nav/status bar, which is an option in AOKP.

Good choice! You could always sell you N4 and buy a brand new N7 if you wanted a tablet too. Though if I had a note 2, I wouldn't see the point of a mid sized tablet since the phone screen is already close in size, might as well go 10"
