Update in case it helps anyone with the same problem: after a second replacement battery (first one was a dud) all is well: longer battery life, and no random shutdowns. Thanks. :)

Thanks, but this didn't do anything for me (there were several resets involved in the Lollipop downgrade). I have a new battery on the way, so I'll see if that helps.

My nexus 5 (just over two years old) has taken to switching off at apparently random moments. If I turn it on again, it usually shows about 3% battery life; if I then turn it off and on again, this sometimes goes up to around 25%. If I plug it in, it starts charging from a higher figure. Here's...
