Your suggestion does work. Tap and hold a notification, and then sliding the switch to "off" turns off all of the notifications for that app for me.

I had the same problem when I tried to add a Hotmail account to my S7's email app. You have to set it up manually and then change m.hotmail.com to m.outlook.com.
