My mom's phone isn't rooted. It probably doesn't even have any apps on it other than the ones it shipped with. I'll call attention next time it happens. Turning flight mode on and off might fix it the same way rebooting fixes it.

Thanks! It worked for me. Only problen is I cant send multimedia messages but I can just put my LTE back on for that. About makking purchases from the market, I tried it with a free app, a paid app, and an update to an app and it worked perfectly.

I havw a 2 and a half year old samsung impression with a regular 3.2 inch AMOLED screen and it had this problem too. It doesn't bother me at all.
