How to compress icons on home page

If you delete a link icon from the home page it leaves a gap. When you add a new link to the home page and choose"auto" the addition "plugs a gap" instead of adding to the end of the existing icons. Is there a way to easily "compress" screen icons so that there are no gaps, forcing an added link icon to be added at the end rather than filling a gap? I find it a pain to have to seek out a recently placed icon that has filled a gap rather than being placed at the end. Hope I'm clear. Thank you for your help.

You can try 3rd party launcher or try larger grid size for stock launcher
