For the dollar, yes it is a truly excellent device. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 427 brings a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU clocking at 1.4GHz, with an independent Adreno 308 GPU for graphics processing. The 2GB RAM is sufficient for everyday tasks and some gaming. The main (rear) camera is 13.0mp which, contrary to answers posted by other members, is very comparable to the camera specs of a flagship device. In fact, the camera exceeds that of some flagship phones. Finally, the device ships with Android 8.0 Oreo and Motorola Mobility has already published manifests for a planned upgrade to Android 9.0 Pie in the very near future. Again, many flagships are not going to see a Pie update rollout.
On a negative note, the Cricket branded variant is not supported for bootloader unlocking, so root and custom software won't be a possibility. This holds true for the Verizon variant as well: perma-locked bootloader = no root or custom ROM flashing. The T-Mobile variant, the Sprint/Boost/Virgin variant and the single/dual SIM Retail variants are all supported for OEM unlocking. In that regard, TWRP custom recovery and many custom ROMs are available, and development is in full swing. Lineage 16.0 Pie was ported for the G6 Play earlier this month.
