I will soon be upgrading my work phone. It will be a Motorola Droid 3. I am unfamiliar with Android as my previous phone had WebOS. Are there any apps or "patches" that I should install? I used Preware on my WebOS devices, does something like that exist?

First thing you should do is look through Milo's guide:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/general-help-how/33254-palm-webos-homebrewers-guide-android.html

Android doesn't really have "patches" the way WebOS did. But you may find that you can obtain a lot of the same flexibility by either installing specific apps or widgets, or by installing a 3d party "launcher."

In any case, read through Milo's guide and take some time to play around with it. And do a lot of reading around these forums (don't just limit yourself to the Droid 3 forums either.)

Welcome, as a former Pre+ user myself, I can say that it isn't so bad over here. :p
