Droid Pro in UK

Can anyone help me with this topic? Its what is known in the US as a "world phone", and from the specs I can see GSM frequencies, and presumably a SIM card slot is in the device too. That should mean if I could get my hands on one it would work over here in UK. Can you get them off contract? Can you buy just a handset without involving a carrier, presumably Verizon? Or is this a dead-end idea?

I understand they are SIM-locked to VZW. You need to be a VZW customer to receive the unlock code for use with non-VZW SIM cards. Sorry.

Well I grabbed one from eBay from a seller who shipped internationally. It came SIM unlocked, so I just popped my SIM in away we go!

Got the OTA update to 3.8.7 as well, wasn't sure if that would work whilst not on Verizon network.
