How did you get into the loop. Were you trying to flash something? Sometimes a wipe of data, cache factory reset will work. Looks like you tried that. If wiping both does not work most of the time a sbf will be needed to get it working again. Make sure you boot into recovery and clear cache then wipe date factory reset then reboot. If still having the problem let us know.

im stock and get the same error, according to other forums this message means absolutely nothing... take that for what its worth. I've never rooted so it has nothing to do with root

I have same message... I'm was running HTC vivid 2.3.4 unlocked bootloader and finally got it rooted.
But couldn't get recovery to boot.
Whipped phone cleared everything even sd card. Still had root but...
I had did a update to phone going from 2.3.4 to 4.0.3 now I don't have root . No super user and still can't use recovery...
Also I have noticed that when I do a factory reset , it saying it can't open a lot of files.
DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG? IS THERE A WAY TO FIX IT?
. If anyone can help me I would be grateful.
