Hi,

I would like you guys to comment about is my battery lasting properly based on my usage?

In short, I am a pretty heavy user. My WiFi is on and connected to the router, Bluetooth is off, GPS is on high accuracy mobile data is off (I don't have a data package) and do not disturb is on pretty much all the time.

I do however, close all my apps via the recent apps screen. I am aware it doesn't terminate the process completely, but I prefer to close them when I don't use them.

I have around 105 apps installed on my 5X. Including heavy apps and games like Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Viber and some heavy games like Batman Telltale, Asphalt Xtreme all on my 16 GB model (I have like 2 GB space left out of 10.66 GB)

Most of the time I use the social apps. I don't really play games much, maybe once in a while. I will attach some screenshots soon, but could you comment on if my battery is lasting fine based on that pretty heavy usage?

Estimated battery time reports around 8 to 10 hours from 100%. I also have a lot of apps stored on the RAM (1.5 out of 1.8)

My 5X is running the latest prod. build Android 7.0 with October patch.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply to this.

What is your screen on time like? That's the true gauge of how heavy a user you are. Also, keep an eye on cell standby on the battery usage list. A weak cell signal will kill your battery almost as fast as the screen. Saying you are a heavy user is a matter of perspective. I don't feel that I am a heavy user, but I have more apps installed than you, data/bluetooth/wifi all on, GPS high accuracy, DND only on at night, etc. Right now my phone has been off charge for 5 hours and it says I have 1 day 3 hours left. It never lasts that long though because I use it heavier in the evening, but I usually get to 16-18 hours of use with more than 20% left.

Thanks for your reply. I just fully charged my phone to 100% and left it on idle for about an hour now, but with all these stuff running. I am attaching screenshots of the battery reports. (When I took the charger out it initially said 6 hours)

I'm in Bangladesh and I have pretty weak signal where I live, most of the time it drops down to EDGE. 3G service can be found when I'm out.

I have took a screenshot a few hours back of the "heavy" battery usage, but not anything else. So you can judge below. I got around 2 hrs SOT.

Also, I'm just asking this to know if the battery is worn out already. I got mine in Feb and I charge mine at pretty random charge levels and times. Does it really matter HOW you and HOW OFTEN you charge it?

My Nexus 5X gets somewhere around 8-10 hours if I'm hitting it relatively hard. (I don't game) 15-20 depending on usage.

2 hours - 2:30 of SOT is around the norm for me.

I start with a full charge at 7am. I have bluetooth on, smartwatch paired, some emailing, a little gaming, some music streaming to and from work, mobile data used mostly, a few calls, browsing, sometimes use wifi throughout the day, but i'll turn it off when not in use. Location services on. I get around 10 hrs before my battery hits 15%. Usually I'll have around 2 hrs of screen on time by that point. I don't call that great, but it gets me through the work day, rapid charge while eating dinner to get me through to bedtime.

Edit: I'm enrolled in the beta program running 7.1.1, I have BlackBerry services and hub installed, also snapchat, instagram, Facebook (not messanger) - 119 apps installed. I still think my battery should last longer. Would love to see how a pixel would handle my use.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I have some more screenshots to share and I get around 3 hours of SOT.

My phone is off at night hence the huge gap.

Is the battery life I'm getting fine from this use?

Also, how to prolong the battery life? I did some research and read that FULLY discharging and fully charging can degrade the battery faster, and also taking into consideration charge cycles. I charge my phone when it's around the 10-30% mark and stop around 80 to 95. Is that fine?

Also, sometimes i disconnect the charger for around 1 or 2 mins if I need to take a picture or send a message (because the charger is a bit too close to the wall so I feel unfomfortable) so is a bit of frequent charger connection and disconnection ok?

Just enjoy the phone. Don't worry too much about battery and charging. Bring a power bank if you need to.

I carry a power pack with me and while I've used it for my Kindle ereader, I've never needed it for my Nexus 5 or Nexus 5x.

I've had a 5x for about a month now and my only disappointment is battery life. With the same use patterns, it seems no better than my (3 year old) Nexus 5. Part of the issue may be Android 7..1.1 -- I realize that there may be some power management problems with that.

I also have a Nexus 6 (totally different usage pattern) which blows away both the 5 and the 5x on battery life.

Power packs (external batteries) are fairly cheap and the best solution when you anticipate heavy battery use. That's what I use when I know I won't be near a charger for a long time. But it's annpying that I need both the battery and an adapter (to usb-c) for the 5x.
