Some apps, like the popular Gcam Port are only available from unknown sources like apk mirror. I did download the apk file to computer first and ran it through 2 anti-virus programs and one malware program before downloading to my phone.
By the way, I just took a few pictures at the local park and the difference compared to the stock camera app is night and day.
