Cannot delete URLs stored with browsers

I have both Chrome and Firefox browsers installed on my Note 2. My issue has to do with suggested URLs that show up below the browser window. For example, when you click in the URL bar, a keypad opens up below the screen and just between the keypad and the screen is a one-line suggestion for a website. There is a drop-down arrow which will also allow you to select other ones. At some time in the past, I navigated to a site by accident but do not want to go there again (know what I mean), nor do i want my kids exposed. The problem is that I have tried innumerable "cleaners" to delete this entry and none have worked. I also tried Chrome Settings ->privacy -> clear browsing data, and Settings -> content settings -> website settings to find that website and delete it manually, but it does not show up there. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled and, there it is, always first in the list. I am unable to uninstall Chrome.

Does anyone know where the data that is showing up is actually stored on the phone? Is there a file I could manually delete?

Only as a last resort do I want to do a hard reset.

Help!

Could it be that your mobile & computer(s) are synced and you need to clear from all?
Just a punt in the dark for ya :)
