Came across this little hack when looking for battery saving techniques and thought I'd share. Normally, you can't use the 120Hz in medium power saving mode, but this little hack allows you to have both enabled. All you have to do is enable it in Bixby Routines. I don't use it all the time, but for those times I'm away from a charger and need the extra battery it's great! The video was created for the S20 series but it also works for the Note.

NICE!! Thanks. This is good for work when you're not using some of the battery drain functions. Probably wouldn't notice a performance difference.

You can hide the icon battery medium power saving mode that's on the status bar with Quickstar.

1-first of all , delete routine , go to setting / apply power saving mode / before pressing apply ( unselect AOD ) ... than press apply .
2-remove power saving mode and back to optimized .
3-use routine now ( to apply 120hrz or 96hrz ) with power saving mode .
4-lock the phone and unlock again to see that routine work + power saving mode .

I don't have power option in bixby routines. Unless I'm missing something daft? 120 Hz in medium power saving mode hack-screenshot_20200829-122736_bixby-20routines.jpeg

Na, screen shot above was after the IF selection. I just don't have medium battery saving in my THEN selection.

( I already use bixby routines for other stuff, but there is no battery options for me in THEN. Wonder what I'm missing?)

EDIT: I figured it out. If you have adaptive power setting turned on, turn it off. Then the Medium power saving option will show up in the list.

I'm using this hack and it seems to be helping with battery life. The one thing I noticed which I created a work around for is when you plug in your phone into your car and Android Auto is running and you are using either Waze or Google Maps the navigation will freeze up I'm assuming because the Medium power saving cuts off the GPS.

What I did was created a Bixby Routine where if a Bluetooth device is connected (my car) it will turn off Medium Power saving mode. Seeing how a wired Android Auto connection charges your phone anyway you don't need the device in Medium Power Saving mode to begin with.

Why just not use adaptive power saving on optimized which allows u to have 120hz while also saving some battery?
    08-31-2020 10:52 AM
  25. miamiborn79's Avatar
Because optimize doesn't save nearly the battery that medium power saving mode does. For me, this is something I don't run all the time, but for those times you still want smooth scrolling, but want to extend your battery life as well it's a nice hack.
