is the S21+ an upgrade?

Based on the leaked specs, I couldn't see much improvement over the D20+, and the current deal Samsung is offering on the D20+ is mighty tempting.

Any thoughts?

Here are some comparisons between what is known about the Galaxy S21 models and the Galaxy S20's.

Samsung Galaxy S21 5G vs Samsung Galaxy S20 5G

Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G vs Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G

The differences have been highlighted.

My thanks go to GSMArena

WoW! they removed SD card support. This my main reason to support Samsung.

Yeah removing the sd card slot and charger from the box, after making fun of Apple for doing it, and charging more for the same basic specs sounds like a good reason to upgrade lol.

In some respects its a step backwards. Only thing I like about the S21+ is the slightly larger battery.

As the owner of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G I can see no reason to upgrade to the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.

Samsung threw everything at the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G and it would seem from the comparisons in post #2, that there is very little left when it comes to the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G... in fact, it almost seems like a downgrade in some respects.

That is not to say that the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is not a good phone and I would certainly consider it if I was upgrading from anything other than the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G.

Well, there is absolutely no reason for me to upgrade now. Why do they insist on removing the SD Card? I feel this is the biggest reason not to get an iPhone. I mean, we know why, they make you pay much more for the larger capacity phone and then they'll sell you cloud space.

I just upgraded to the S20+ from the S9+ about 3 months ago. Really, the S20 isn't doing anything that my old S9 couldn't do. Yes the 120hz is really cool, and the camera is a bit better, but other than that, I really don't see that much of a difference. Point being, they really aren't giving us much of a reason to upgrade every year. I'm kinda hoping that My S20+ last me at least 2 years, if not 3. Maybe by then, there will be a must have feature to upgrade.

Wow, they really are getting rid of the SD card? Deal breaker for me. I'll keep my S20 Ultra and switch brands when I want to upgrade. This is such BS

For me.... if the phone has enough internal storage I don't need a card. I use one in my Note 20 Ultra because it's only 128mb. I don't use one in my S20 Ultra which has 512mb

I don't think the SD card thing will last, Samsung tried it before, and it didn't work... Note 5 ring a bell? they haven't done it to the sLine since the 6 I believe and it didn't work then either. I don't know whose in charge, but they should be fired. they're going to **** off a lot of Samsung fans with this one... will they ever learn?

And, although I'm guessing in reality I won't be able to tell a difference the screen resolution is going down as well? I can only assume with with a lower resolution and larger battery the phone should have better battery life. Something faster than 25W charging would have been nice this time around.

And, between the internal storage and SD card I'm not even using 100gb so the 256 should be plenty for me.

It is the reason i didn't switch from my s10 to a iP12 mini or pro max this month.

I've got an s10 512 and I use the card to store music and photos so when I switch off to my BlackBerry k2le (when I feel like a keyboard) I still have all my music and photos (regardless of coverage).
Not everywhere in the world has coverage or wifi. Dropping the SD is just cynical manipulation.

I'll be out of contract for the start of '22........so I'll wait and see what the S22 brings........if it doesn't bring back card slot and WQHD screen..........I'll be jumping ship.

If I can get the Ultra at 256gb at $1,400 I'll bite on it. I need 256. BTW I see the rumors that the Ultra may have external storage. In any case I'm upgrading from my Note 10+ but if the Ultra goes over my price limit I'll get the Pro Max. 256gb for $1,200 and they are starting to roll out widgets which is the only reason I'm considering it.
