Just came across this on SamMobile
http://www.sammobile.com/2012/06/08/korean-galaxy-siii-getting-a-quead-core-cpu-with-2gb-or-ram/
So as Jerry pointed out in the podcast, the reason the N.American versions of the S3 have the extra RAM is to give the Snapdragon S4 processor the performance of the quad core Exynos processor on the European version. We know the European version has 1GB of RAM so why does this Korean version need 2GB of RAM?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that this Korean variant has the 1.4GHZ Quad core Exynos processor.

Oh sorry missed that. Hmm well my guess is since that is where the phone is manufactured they want the better version.

Im sure that is a possibility, but not likely. I think more to do with the competition from the next iPhone. Sammy wanted to put as much into this thing as they could. Either way, once we can root this thing and unhinge a full 2 gigs of RAM, it should be nothing short of amazing. Apparently it already is super fast.
