First Detailed Video Comparison Between Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8)

Re: First Detailed Video Comparison Between Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8

Glad to hear the fingerprint sensor works better than was expressed in other reviews. I'm still not sold on it though. I doubt I'll use it if it doesn't allow for easy one-handed access. I don't want to be essentially locked out of my phone because I have a hand full.

Makes me want my S5 even more!

As long as the fingerprint sensor works more reliably than face unlock, I'll be a happy camper.

You can always choose to input your pin code instead of swiping your finger.

Yeah, I get that. And I've tried using a PIN before on my current phone but didn't like it. Maybe I'm a little weird in this regard, but I really just prefer instant access (a quick swipe of the lock screen). I guess it'll be something I'll just have to play around with.

Wow I really liked his review! It was very honest and smartly executed without all the "back of the plastic just feels gross to the touch blah blah" lol

The 4k recording was so choppy. They should have really put ois in the phone. Other then that the S5 looks good.

Nice review. I've realized something about how both Samsung and HTC were able to implement certain features without sacrificing the build for each device💡💡. For example:

Samsung was able to maintain a relatively identical footprint of the S4, while adding the water resistant functionality and increasing the battery capacity.

HTC was able to expand the metal construction of the M7, while adding an SD Card slot and not negatively impacting the signal transmission quality for the various internal antennas.

In my opinion, I think neither Samsung or HTC are given the credit they deserve with regards to how they design their products. But hey, not every phone is for everyone I guess..

If samsung would have made it metal, everyone would be drooling for this phone. Yet since it is "cheap plastic" it is only a "minor" upgrade over the s4, where as the m8 which you can argue is even less of an upgrade over the m7, is praised by all the tech sites. It is funny how throw a little metal on a device and automatically it becomes "better" Too bad the s5 is an overall better device and will sell like crazy being waterproof, having the larger, removable battery, and also having the better camera.

Re: First Detailed Video Comparison Between Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8

the S5 will sell like crazy because Samsung can spend tens of millions on advertising that HTC can't afford.
Metal will always be viewed as higher quality, versus plastic.
Waterproof hasn't done much for other mfgs, like sony, and since most recent flagship phones have a strong battery that lasts a full day, that wont make much of a difference to most people either..

Camera quality might matter to more folks than any of these other "com parables" though..

Yeah the iPhone 5s, galaxy s5, and M8 are all pretty incremental upgrades.

I think I'd go with the HTC One M8 if given the choice.

I'm tired of the same cheap plastic look of the G3-G5.

Those other manufacturers haven't been on multiple carriers in the states though. I think the waterproof is going to be a huge selling point, and be one area that really lures some people in. Plus the m8 camera really lacks details. I've been looking at lots of pics taken with the m8 and they really leave a lot to be desired. Sad once again Htc missed that one key part to really have the near perfect phone.

there is one important area that the M8 just owns the S5 on, and that is looks...If that means anything to folks, the M8 is the best "looking" Android phone right now, IMO..

This is a point that matters to maybe 20% of consumers who use there smartphones naked. The others will use a case and therefore negate the benefits in "looks".

I also disagree that the HTC M8 has better looks, frankly it has a more premium look than the S5 and thats about it. The large bezels and unnecessary length results in plenty of wasted space and degrades the looks immensely.

The S5 may not be built out of metal but the bezels, size and look of the device are better than the M8 which may seem crazy to you but metal does not equal good looks on its own. Give me a metal device that is ergonomic with small bezels and you will have a winner on your hands, unfortunately the M8 is still missing some of these aspects.
