Side Buttons Live When Headphones Plugged In

This is the most infuriating thing. With the headphones plugged in, the volume buttons function even when the screen is asleep. When at the gym, this is particularly annoying. With my phone screen down in my pocket, the volume fluctuates with the botton. Flip it over, and the touch screen is awakened and the track skips because the screen is against my leg. Anyone have a similar issue?

It happens to me too.

I'm thinking of getting an Arm Band or a Holster to prevent this.
