Notification noise but no notification at 8 AM

I am not sure exactly when this started but it has been a few weeks at least. My phone will make my default notification sound daily at 8 AM exactly. Yet there will be nothing in the notification bar. Needless to say its pretty annoying. I installed the notification tracker app and it doesn't show any notifications at 8 AM. I searched around and found some old threads saying gsam battery monitor may cause random battery overheating warnings, but those would happen at anytime. I have email set to push, but that doesn't start till 9 AM and the notifications are set to off. So no noise or notice in pull down bar. Any ideas?

Looks like I found it. I guess Deerhunter 2014 game was doing the notification. It updated yesterday and when it went off today an icon showed in the pull down bar. Went into the app and it was showing notifications were on. I had them off, but I guess an update at some point recently must have switched it on.
