How do I get rid of the unread message indicator on email?

Can't get rid of the unread message indicator on email

Hello...I am really hoping someone can help me.

The unread message indicator for email (the small icon on top of the email symbol) is showing i have 8 unread emails. There were 8 unread messages in my inbox and i used select and checked each one then hit the trash can at the bottom left. they deleted out of my inbox but as mentioned above it indicates they are still unread.

how do i reset this icon?

I have tried everything in settings and manage email accounts that i can think of. i tried to reboot and also tried a battery pull.

I am out of options...please help!

I had a similar problem. No emails but the icon was there. Dragged the notification bar down and saw a message that one email account was having a problem logging in. Got it fixed and the icon stayed away.
