Why isn't my MHL HDMI cable working?

MHL HDMI cable not working

I bought a rocket fish mil cable from bestbuy for my Samsung s5 and my TV said there was no connection. I tried it with 4 different tvs and tried my brother Samsung s5. I returned it and got an mhl cable from London drugs. Same scenario as before. I can't figure out what's wrong. And yes, I tried the 11 pin adapter

You might be missing this simple step, are you changing the source on your T.V. to HDMI input? You also have to specify, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, (or 3 if you have a third port)
