Ram usage high on S5

I have a new galaxy S5. why is my ram usage 1.17GB in use of 1.67GB available when I have no apps running

Welcome to Android Central! That's normal. Android always wants to keep RAM relatively full with open apps--it's how your apps can open and switch with relative quickness and efficiency. If you force close apps, the system will just reopen them, or open other apps to take their place. Don't worry about RAM--let the system take care of it.
