Samsung Health app suddenly changed?

Yesterday I noticed a drastic change to Samsung Health, which I use to monitor steps on my Galaxy S5. The tabbed main screen is missing and the top quarter of the screen is now taken up by various banner ads (Hello Fresh, Curology, etc). Is there any way to go back to the old app or at least eliminate the ads? Alternately is there a different pedometer app without ads and that doesn't require pressing a "start" button (i.e., always automatically counts steps in the background)?
