Samsung galaxy 6 - why is GPS tracing intermittent

For map my run app, the GPS goes on and off. Didn't happen with my droid max and I'm running the same route

Install GPS Status & Toolbox. When it goes out, see if it's locked to any satellites. Heavy tree cover will completely block the signal. Less heavy cover will weaken it enough that some receivers will still get a few signals, while others will get none. (You need at least 3 satellites to get a 2D fix, but most GPS firmware won't output a location without at least 4 satellites.)

Also, do you have Location set to use wifi and GPS? Using GPS only, if you lose the signal, you lose the location. If it's set to also use wifi, you can lose GPS and still have a pretty good indication of location.

How does the WiFi help when you're out actually navigating a route?

I'm interested in this because my LG Vista is crap with GPS signal , but my daughter's Motorola Droid Maxx is awesome. Same car, side by side, mine constantly screams that it's lost but hers is utterly perfect. Same service, same plan.
