I have enabled developer options and USB debugging, but there does not seem to be an option to put the phone into Mass Storage Mode to enable the phone internal and SD storage to show up as drives on a PC. It only seems to want be in anything other than Media Transfer Protocol mode. There are some USB "NETWORK" settings under the developer menu that would seem to allow you to select something other than MTP (except mass storage is not a selection), but even changing those settings does not take it out of MTP mode. Any suggestions? [Removing the microSD and using a card reader is possible, but the process is a PITA and that does not allow you gain access to on board memory]. Media files need to be in very specific directory locations on internal and external memory for the files to be visible to the VR headset, that is also why I am wanting to gain traditional file write access to memory. Thanks.

    Is that possible?

I've always used the free Android File Transfer.

Works great. You can see your directory structure and drag and drop files for transfer either into or out of the phone.

You can choose where you are viewing the internal memory or the card

I got my SD card yesterday and was planning to transfer all my music and movies this morning. After I read your post, I got nervous and was planning to set up AirDroid for the transfer.

I plugged in the USB to the computer just to check and the option was there for me and I was able to access and directly transfer files to the phone's internal folder or the SD card through regular Windows Explorer.

[I doubt this matters (but I've seen more insignificant details that mattered at times): Windows 10, using the USB cable that came with the Samsung fast wireless charging pad and plugged into the USB 3.0 port on my computer.]

When you connect to a computer, pull the screen down and look for a notification that says "Connected for charging" and click it. You'll then get the options to change the setup of the connection to "Transferring media files" for example.

Up for this. I want to see an assigned drive letter when I will plugin my S7 to the USB laptop port. For now, it will just show "Samsung Galaxy S7 edge" directory in Windows Explorer.
