A couple phones ago, I had one with a micro HDMI port (I think) so when I traveled to hotels I could just plug it into the HDMI port on the TV and watch movies. What would be the easiest way to do that with this phone?

    You can't unfortunately.

Yes you can. Just get a Chromcast dongle and use the app on your phone. Plug the dongle into any modern tv that has a HDMI in a hotel, etc.

I have a smart TV, all u do is put the TV on mirrorcast and it mirrors your phone easily.

I think that even with screen mirroring both the chromecast and the phone need to be on the same WiFi network. If the hotel had public WiFi this would make your chromecast available to everyone on the network.

You can also get a Samsung HDMI>micro usb adapter and do it.

Have you tried that without it being on a network?

I've found the best and easiest way is to use the Microsoft Display Adapter ($50 at Bestbuy) and connect via Smart View.

No it wouldn't. Your Chromecast displays a code on the TV that needs to be entered into the Chromecast app in order to connect.

An MHL adapter won't work with the S7? I didn't know that.

    True.

And, Y'know, just use your old smartphone as a WiFi hotspot point. Remember, your S7 can now share it's data via a WiFi connection so maybe you can use it's connection as a relay to a second smartphone being used as a hotspot, as to allow the chromecast an internet connection.

I'm still massively annoyed with Google removing offline casting support. It used to be perfect to take somewhere with no internet but have a TV and a bunch of films stored on an SD card in your phone. Boo Google!

Not saying you're wrong, I just honestly didn't know that lol. I haven't used my mhl adapter since I got my smart tv (since the Note 4) so I wasn't aware it stopped working.

If this works, this seems like the easiest way. No wires and cheap. Maybe I'll try it out.

It wont work. You need the Samsung adapter, not a generic MHL.

That's what I meant, I have the Samsung MHL adapter. If it does still work, OP, this would be an easy option for you to connect via HDMI

I think this works as it talks to the phone directly, not going through a network wifi.

If you got the silver S7 edge it comes with a built in mirror, the back.

Yes there can be some lag but do you mean it actually freezes?

Yeah it refused to update when I changed pictures and also sometimes it just continued to show the screensaver even tho it said it was connected.
This may be due to the wireless setup where I'm living. But I don't have a problem streaming shows so I think there should be enough bandwidth.
I will recheck it Monday when I'm back home and see if anything is different.

Both these are good just look for "WiDi" wifi direct that way you don't need a network.
