How do I create a contact on to the home screen. I had my wife and kids on the home screen of S5 all I had to do was click on the picture of them and call. No luck doing this on S7

You can long press and add the direct dial widget and choose your contact. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Android 6 (MM) changed things a bit.
Long press on whichever home screen you want your shortcuts on.
At the bottom of the screen select "Widgets".
Scroll to the "Contacts" group.
Select either the Direct Dial or Direct Message icon.
Drag that icon to the home screen.
It will then bring up your contacts, to select whomever.
If you have multiple phone numbers for that contact (home, work, cell etc), it will then prompt you for which contact number to add.

Choose Cruz!

I for one was happy to see direct dial back in marshmallow! My note5 has it now too!

Sent with my white Note5 with nonremovable back and no SDcard!

There is also a choice under the widget for "contact", which is like the old version of contact on the home screen.

This makes no sense. Where did the "add to home screen" option go?

I can't even find the widgets on the s7

It made perfect sense to me it workseems. Long touch on a blank space on your home screen and then take the widgets hit search type dir pick direct dial widget and pick contact which you want widget to represent. Hopefully that is simple enough for a simpleton. Get a better attitude lady.

Blessings! I NEVER would have figured this one out! For such a great phone, they really messed up on this one!

Yay! Very helpful answer was able to add one contact with multiple phone numbers as I did with S5. I had to use the blank contact circle, not the direct dial (or it picks default number only). I don't need it for the message function.

I miss Cruz!!!!

How do you get the S7 to put a text shortcut when there are multiple numbers for one contact? It only goes to the default or main number.
